As America celebrates its 250th Anniversary, it's the perfect time to raise a glass to one of our nation's oldest whiskey traditions: Maryland Rye.

Long before bourbon rose to national prominence, Maryland Rye was one of America's defining whiskeys. Maryland farmers grew the grain, local distillers refined the craft, and rye whiskey became an important part of the state's agricultural economy and American commerce. For more than two centuries, Maryland earned a reputation for producing rye whiskey with a distinctive character that was enjoyed far beyond our state lines.

That legacy lives on today.

In 2023, Maryland officially designated Maryland Rye Whiskey as the Official State Spirit—a fitting tribute to more than 250 years of farming, craftsmanship, and whiskey-making tradition. Unlike states that recognize a single distillery or brand, Maryland chose to honor an entire heritage built by generations of farmers, distillers, coopers, and craftspeople.

Preserving a Maryland Tradition

At Crown Rose Estate Distillery, we're proud to carry that tradition forward as a Field-to-Glass Farm Distillery.

To us, great whiskey begins long before it enters a barrel. It starts in the field—with carefully grown Maryland grain. From there, every step of the journey happens with purpose: milling, mashing, fermenting, distilling, aging, and bottling. It's our way of honoring the land, supporting local agriculture, and creating whiskey that reflects the place where it was born.

Every bottle tells a story—not just of whiskey, but of Maryland's farming heritage and the people who continue to preserve it.

Celebrating America 250

As we celebrate America's 250th Birthday, we remember that our nation's story was built by farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, and patriots whose hard work laid the foundation for generations to come.

We also pause to honor the heroes who gave their lives—and those who have served—to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. Their sacrifice makes celebrations like this possible, and we are deeply grateful.

So here's to Maryland Rye.

Here's to American craftsmanship.

Here's to our farmers, our distillers, and our communities.

And here's to preserving Maryland's whiskey legacy—one field, one barrel, one bottle, and one story at a time.

We invite you to visit Crown Rose Estate Distillery, experience our Field-to-Glass rye whiskey, and discover why Maryland's Official State Spirit continues to inspire a new generation of whiskey lovers.

Happy Independence Day—and here's to the next 250 years. Happy 4th of July!
